PROJECT TIMELINE

On March 20, 2023, the Carter County Board of Education voted to award the architect firm RossTarrant the contract to design the potential new Carter County high school and Career and Technical Center.  The Board also voted to approve, pending Kentucky Department of Education approval, the purchase of over 200 acres of land in the center of Carter County.   The property is located in an area that is between US Highway 60 and I-64.

 

These steps are a continuation of the planning process of the Carter County School District for the construction of a new Carter County high school and Career & Technical Center.  Over the next several months, all stakeholders will have the opportunity to provide input and feedback on the design of the new facility through community forums, feedback forms, and online polls. 
 

Step 1 (Local Planning Committee) – Completed April 2022

• LPC Reconvened

• LPC revises District Facility Plan to include New High School
   

Step 2 (Site Selection) – Completed – May 12, 2023 – (See Map below)

- Site selection work with KDE, engineers, and architects to identify viable sites

- Sites identified and presented to board

- In-depth studies of sites occur

- Site selected

- Purchase of Property – 206.12 Acres for $380,339.68
 

Step 3 (Site Development) – Begin Fall 2023-Spring 2024

• Phase I Construction – Site Development Package

• Contract awarded to Walker Construction – September 20, 2023

  • 3.3 million cubic yards of dirt and rock excavation

  • Construct road to site

Step 5 (Turn-lane Design) – KYTC Project - July 1, 2024

- Phase II Construction – Road Development

- Design turn-lane from US 60 to property

- Develop infrastructure to new property

 

Step 6 - (Construction)- Begin 2025

- Phase III Construction  - Facilities

-  Bidding for construction

- Total cost (based on bids) analysis

- Contract bids awarded/rejected

- Board makes final approval to move forward with build.
